These tools can be useful support in information search, literature research, data analysis and other research stages, helping to work more efficiently and save time. ACM Digital Library AI Summary and AI Podcasts
ACM Digital Library has two artificial intelligence tools – AI Summary and AI Podcasts.
AI Summary provides generated summaries for almost all journals and conference proceedings published by ACM over the past 5 years. The tool can be found in the search results, where it provides short summaries (up to 100 words), and on article pages, where it provides long summaries (up to 400 words).
AI Podcasts are generated podcast-style audio interviews with transcripts, created by synthesizing all papers within a conference session. The interviews can be found in ACM-led conferences, at the top of each session (published in the last year).
ClinicalKey Reading Assistant (beta)
ClinicalKey Reading Assistant (beta) helps quickly understand content within the ClinicalKey (available to the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Latvia). It is found on the left side when opening a book chapter or journal article and can be used to generate chapter or article summaries and ask questions about the text in natural language. Answers are generated within the context of the chapter or article. The tool provides references and allows you to jump to the referenced sections within the literature.
EBSCO AI Insights
EBSCO AI Insights is available on EBSCOhost platform in both UL subscribed databases – EBSCO Central & Eastern European Academic Source (CEEAS) and EBSCO APA PsycArticles. It is found in the search results, and it generates article summaries with 2-5 main theses, providing a chance to quickly evaluate the article. Summaries are generated in the interface language, regardless of the language of the article. If AI Insights does not appear, the publisher has not agreed to it, the content is too short, or the resource is from a book or from another EBSCO database.
EBSCO Ask this Document Beta (AI Ask)
EBSCO Ask this Document Beta is available on EBSCOhost platform in both UL subscribed databases – EBSCO Central & Eastern European Academic Source (CEEAS) and EBSCO APA PsycArticles. The tool is found in search results via the AI Ask button. It gives a chance to ask your own questions about the article or choose from the provided prompts – summarize this document, what was the methodology used in this document?, what are the conclusions in this document?. Answers are solely based off of the content within the document. The tool provides references and allows you to jump to the referenced sections that discusses that information.
HeinOnline Article Summaries
HeinOnline Article Summaries are available in HeinOnline Law Journal Library (available to the Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia) search results and article pages. The tool provides 200–300-word article summaries which are generated using HeinOnline content. The summaries include the central theses, legal/academic issues addressed, methodologies and data sources used, findings or analysis, recommendations or implications. Summaries are also included in the article PDF files available for download. New summaries are published monthly, starting with the most viewed and cited articles.
JSTOR’s AI Research Tool
JSTOR’s AI Research Tool is found on the JSTOR item page for journal articles, book chapters, and research reports. It identifies how your search query relates to the content, suggests the text’s key points and arguments (What is this about, Show abstract, What is this selection about), lets you ask other questions, as well as searches for related content (Show related content, Find related content) and topics (Recommend topics) in the database. These options can be used both in the AI Research Tool conversation window and by highlighting text in the article. For longer text, you can use the What is this selection about option, and for shorter text Find related content. To use the tool, you need to log in or create a personal profile in the database. The conversations can be downloaded and cited.
LETA Archive AI Assistant
LETA Archive AI Assistant finds and compiles information from the LETA News Archive in Latvian. It is built based on the RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) principle: with the help of artificial intelligence, the most relevant archive articles are selected, then a summary is created, and finally the large language model (LLM) prepares the final answer.
To get more accurate answers, it is recommended to formulate questions specifically, indicating a clear time period and using precise keywords (for example, personal names in the singular nominative). It should be noted that the assistant's level of understanding is relatively simple – it does not always adequately interpret the context, sarcasm or irony and may make mistakes when working with relative time designations (for example, “yesterday” or “last Wednesday”), as well as both too few and too many articles used can affect the quality of the answer. Always check the facts in the sources used.
OSMOSIS AI
OSMOSIS AI is a conversational artificial intelligence tool in medical education platform OSMOSIS. It delivers evidence-based responses to healthcare-related questions or prompts, using Elsevier’ s medical resources. OSMOSIS AI can be used for generating quiz questions and case studies, outlining lectures, creating reference sheets, or getting clear explanations of complex healthcare questions. Each response includes a list of sources and supplemental visual materials from OSMOSIS content, as well as suggestions for additional questions.
Oxford AI Discovery Assistant (beta)
Oxford AI Discovery Assistant (beta) is an artificial intelligence tool found in Oxford Academic platform, that hosts Oxford Journals Online and Oxford Research Encyclopedias. It finds 10 pieces of full-text results with short descriptions (if an abstract is available) and information on access. Since AI Discovery Assistant searches within all Oxford Academic, full-texts that are not available for UL users are found as well. To narrow the results, it is recommended to specify the query, asking to search for articles and references starting year 1996. The tool can be found on Oxford Academic under the search bar.
Oxford AI Search Assistant
Oxford AI Search Assistant is an artificial intelligence tool found in Oxford English Dictionary, next to the advanced search option. It constructs an advanced search result link based on the entered query, which can be opened and edited. It can answer questions about the dictionary itself as well. You can ask 10 questions per day.
ProQuest Research Assistant (beta)
ProQuest Research Assistant (beta) is an artificial intelligence tool found in ProQuest eBook Central Academic Complete and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global. In ProQuest eBook Central Academic Complete, the tool is found in the book Read Online view. It identifies the chapter’s key takeaway, summarizes the concepts discussed, and offers to search them. In ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global, the tool is found in the dissertation and abstract Read Online view. It identifies the dissertation’s key takeaway (using the author's abstract), identifies essential details, highlights findings or conclusions, visualizes topics, suggests searches for related research topics, and provides descriptions of important concepts.
ScienceDirect Reading Assistant
ScienceDirect Reading Assistant is found in ScienceDirect journal article reading view (not available in book chapters). It generates article summaries and allows you to ask questions about the text in natural language. The tool can be used for 5 articles per month, and it requires you to log in your personal profile. The tool helps with text comprehension while reading.
Scopus AI
Scopus AI is an intuitive generative artificial intelligence tool that extracts information exclusively from the bibliographic and citation information database Scopus. It searches relevant documents from across 7,000+ publishers, focused on those published since 2003, and instantly generates an easy-to-understand topic summary with references and options to expand the results. Scopus AI uses natural language processing, and queries can be asked in the language of your choice (answers will be generated in English). Scopus AI is a research assistant that helps conduct research more efficiently by quickly gathering reliable information, as well as highlighting the most important keywords, most influential papers, leading experts, and related queries on the topic of interest.
Statista Research AI
Statista Research AI is an artificial intelligence tool found in Statista (available to the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Latvia). It generates answers to your prompts by extracting information directly from Statista, providing sources and suggesting related queries. Questions can be asked in different languages, and conversation history is saved.
UpToDate AI-enhanced search
UpToDate AI-enhanced search is an artificial intelligence-enhanced search option in UpToDate (available to UL Residential study program members). It allows for natural language searches and, in addition to the usual search results, AI selects fragments from UpToDate content.
