Laptops are available to UL students and staff around the clock:

  • at the Natural Sciences Library – in the reading room,
  • at the Science House Library – via the self-service kiosk.

To use the self-service device, you must:

  • be registered with the UL Library*,
  • have no outstanding obligations to the UL Library,
  • use your UL student or staff ID card.

Once a laptop has been checked out from the Science House Library self-service kiosk, it may be used throughout the Science House building, including in lecture halls, laboratories, conference areas, and group study rooms.

The laptops also come equipped with licensed specialized software, including MathWorks, MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics 6, KiCad 8.0, IBM SPSS Statistics, MATLAB R2020a, PuTTY, RStudio, and Wolfram Mathematica 12.1.

The self-service device provides:

  • convenient and quick laptop checkout and return,
  • secure laptop charging.

Rules regarding the use of the computer equipment can be found in the UL Library’s Terms of Use.

* UL students register with the library electronically once a year—at the start of each academic year, by October 1st—using the UL information system. UL staff members register in person at the library.
