LETA Archive AI Assistant finds and compiles information from the LETA News Archive in Latvian. It is built based on the RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) principle: with the help of artificial intelligence, the most relevant archive articles are selected, then a summary is created, and finally the large language model (LLM) prepares the final answer.
To get more accurate answers, it is recommended to formulate questions specifically, indicating a clear time period and using precise keywords (for example, personal names in the singular nominative). It should be noted that the assistant's level of understanding is relatively simple – it does not always adequately interpret the context, sarcasm or irony and may make mistakes when working with relative time designations (for example, “yesterday” or “last Wednesday”), as well as both too few and too many articles used can affect the quality of the answer. Always check the facts in the sources used.
The assistant can be found in the “Archive” section of the LETA website. The LETA News, Archive and Nozare.lv databases are available only on the premises of the University of Latvia. Requests for remote access must be sent to info-bibl@lu.lv.
