The Collection Usage and Development Department is a structural unit of the Library of the University of Latvia (UL) and its purpose is to facilitate the implementation of the mission of the Library by providing collection, organisation, availability and preservation of information resources and also collection development in compliance with users’ informational needs. One of the key tasks of the department is to provide users of the Library of the UL with information resources in keeping with the study and research trends of the University of Latvia. In collaboration with the structural units of the UL, students’ self-government, academic and general staff, the Library deals with collection management matters and provides consultations to UL staff on how to be competent in the market of information resources and how to use LUIS to order information resources for the holdings of the Library. The department also ensures accessibility to bibliographic records of the Library’s information resources from the Union Catalogue of Latvian libraries of national significance.
