The aim of the Library of Rare Books and Manuscripts “Bibliotheca Rigensis” is to create and manage the collection and services of LUB’s ancient printed works, manuscripts, rare books and other cultural heritage values. Its tasks:

  • to create, organize and store the collection of LUB’s ancient printed works, manuscripts, rare books and other cultural heritage values, which is based on the collection of the Riga City Library (“Bibliotheca Rigensis”) established in 1524;
  • to provide library services to the users of “Bibliotheca Rigensis”;
  • to plan and organize the physical preservation and digitization activities of the “Bibliotheca Rigensis” collections;
  • to plan and organize the popularization of the “Bibliotheca Rigensis” collections and to promote their use in the study process and scientific work.
